The screwdriver

Height and tilt will change your tone more than you think.

Every Bellwether Set includes a screwdriver. Raising or lowering a pickup, or tilting it toward the bass or treble side, is one of the most musical things you can do with a Strat. There is no correct height. There is the one that feels alive in your hands.

Your setup sits near

In the neighborhood of John Frusciante, with a nod toward Jeff Beck.

Overall height

Closer to the strings: stronger output, fatter mids, more attack. Farther away: cleaner, more open, more air and chime — the place a lot of vintage-style players land. Start around medium and listen. Extreme height can pull the strings and kill sustain, especially on the high E and B.

Tilt

Bass side up: warmth, thickness, a rounder top. Treble side up: sparkle, articulation, extra quack. A millimetre or two is usually enough. Adjust one pickup at a time, then check all five switch positions — especially the in-betweens.

Starting points

Same pickups. Different height and tilt. These are starting points, not copies — most of the sound is still in the fingers. Load any of them in the tool above, then wander with the sliders.
